A IMPOPULAR REFORMA ADMINISTRATIVA DE 1867

A reforma administrativa de Martens Ferrão visava implementar uma nova administração local, no qual sobressaía a reorganização do território, alteração do mapa dos distritos, dos concelhos, das paróquias e a adaptação da economia à nova realidade económico-financeira. A reforma da administração local de 1867 constituía desse modo uma oportunidade para moldar a sociedade aos princípios do liberalismo, dada a dificuldade ao longo da primeira metade de Oitocentos. Mais, a urgência resultava reforçada pelo facto de crise generalizada na sociedade e a existência de um elevado défice público. Procurámos inserir esta reforma impopular como uma das causas da agitação popular vivida durante o ano de 1867, e que culminou numa onda de protestos radicais no primeiro de janeiro de 1868. Essa agitação traduziu-se numa revolta, a “Janeirinha”, que proporcionou mudanças no meio político.

THE IMPOPULAR ADMINISTRATIVE REFORM OF 1867
ABSTRACT: The administrative reform of Martens Ferrão aimed to implement a new local administration, in which stood the reorganization of territory, changing the map of the districts, the counties and parishes, the adaptation of the economy to the new economic and financial reality. The local government reform of 1867 in this way constituted an opportunity to finally shape the society to the principles of liberalism, given the difficulty throughout the first half of the nineteenth century. Further, the urgency was reinforced by the generalized crisis in society and the existence of a high public deficit. We try to insert this unpopular reform as one of the causes of the popular agitation during the year 1867, and which culminated in a wave of radical protests in the first of January of 1868. This agitation led to a revolt, “Janeirinha”, which provided changes in the political environment.
